Recently, I’ve been working out the details on a major project in development. Well, two major projects I guess. Of course, I always have Trials of The Hunt updating weekly, and I’ll post the Spring cliffhanger this week, so that’s exciting.

Finding Voice for Characters

Trials of The Hunt is going very well. I am currently posting Chapter 10 this Wednesday, and I’m loving every minute of it – the writing, the researching, worldbuilding – the works. One thing it is forcing me to do is develop plots, and along with that, characters. I have a new character debuting soon who figures prominently in the story. This character makes a very brief appearance, but the impact of that appearance is felt for quite some time. Originally, I had planned for Pat (fictional, gender-neutral name for a fictional character, lol) to appear more often. Pat was to have a significant influence by having a permanent presence in the overall plot. However, as the series has developed, it seems Pat’s influence will be far more effective in a limited capacity.

Tackling Writer’s Block

blockYou sit down to write and nothing happens. You decide to check email, maybe Facebook, Pinterist and a couple other social networking sites, and before you know it, you’ve blown through your allotted writing time for the night. You resolve to try it again tomorrow night.  Copy, paste – same thing happens for days in a row. Do you have writer’s block? Are you unable to get words on paper because you can’t get past a mental block?

Take your time

I took a long break from writing to let the proverbial dust settle on the last re-write. It’s been months and, although I’ve thought about the novel and the story, I haven’t had the motivation to get back to it again. I’ve been writing for submission to anthologies and contests mostly. I’ve even fleshed out a few character backgrounds, but nothing substantial for the current novel. I’ve decided that I need to get back into the swing of things. I’m starting by using my handy dandy new phone to better organize my writing and development time. I’ve realized that I need to set my writing time in stone, commit to the plan and then DO IT if I am ever to submit this two and a half years worth of work. In the meantime I do believe I have been working on the craft, honing my skills if you will, so that the submission will be met with success.
